Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have rescued two kidnapped victims in Plateau State and intercepted a suspected gun runner in Kaduna State during separate security operations within their Joint Operations Area.
The successes were recorded during coordinated fighting patrols and stop-and-search operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring stability in affected communities.
In Plateau State, troops deployed to Wase Local Government Area carried out an aggressive patrol around Kukawa in Kanam Local Government Area when they encountered suspected kidnappers who were reportedly moving two abducted victims to a hideout. Upon making contact with the troops, the criminals abandoned the victims and fled into nearby bushes to evade arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the rescued individuals had been abducted at gunpoint on February 22, 2026, from Mansur village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Following their rescue, the victims were debriefed by security personnel. Efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families, while troops continue combing surrounding forests and hideouts in pursuit of the fleeing suspects and to search for any additional victims.
In a related development, troops deployed to Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State intercepted a suspected gun runner during a routine stop-and-search operation at Kurmin Goro village. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Vincent Ibrahim, was apprehended while allegedly transporting five fabricated rifles to an undisclosed destination in Kafanchan.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to determine the origin and intended recipients of the weapons. Authorities say the operation underscores ongoing efforts to disrupt the flow of illegal arms, which have been linked to banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the region.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift response during the operations. He reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Plateau, Kaduna, and adjoining states, assuring residents that sustained offensives and intelligence-driven operations will continue to target criminal elements threatening peace and security in the region.
