Resident doctors at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have threatened to resume industrial action on August 28, 2026, if the Oyo State Government and hospital management fail to address their outstanding welfare demands.
The Association of Resident Doctors, in a statement signed by its President, Dr Adedapo Mustapha, and General Secretary, Dr John Stephen, said it suspended its strike on June 27 for eight weeks to allow authorities resolve the issues.
The doctors said their unresolved demands include the release of the medical residency training fund, implementation of the new professional allowance table, payment of minimum wage arrears, and recruitment of more resident doctors and other critical staff.
They also raised concerns over severe manpower shortages, saying the situation had left available doctors overstretched by prolonged and frequent call duties.
The association appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and relevant authorities to intervene before the August 28 deadline, stressing that it preferred dialogue and a peaceful resolution.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), University of Lagos chapter, has issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government over alleged pay disparities and unpaid allowances.
The union threatened warning and indefinite industrial action if its demands are not addressed by August 31, 2026.
NAMDA said medical academics earn significantly less than doctors employed directly by federal teaching hospitals despite having similar specialist training and carrying additional teaching, research and administrative responsibilities.
The union called on the Federal Government to bridge the pay gap between medical lecturers and hospital consultants under CONMESS.
