President Bola Tinubu has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State.

Osun residents will vote on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 15 candidates contesting the election.

The major contenders include the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement, Tinubu urged INEC to protect the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the election is free and fair.

He also directed the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies deployed for the election to provide adequate security at polling units and protect voters and electoral officials.

The President called on Osun residents to come out and vote for candidates of their choice without fear or intimidation, while urging them to avoid actions capable of disrupting the election.

Tinubu said the outcome of the election must reflect the will of the people and urged INEC to use the poll to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
