Traffic has built up on the Gbagada Expressway in Lagos following two separate accidents involving trucks and other vehicles on Thursday.
The accidents involved two major trucks in one incident and two trailers and five other vehicles in another near Charlie Boy.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) deployed tow trucks, a forklift and other equipment to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the agency had been working at the scene since 5am. One of the trucks had been removed, while efforts were ongoing to clear the remaining vehicles.
Five vehicles involved in the second accident had also been evacuated, while efforts continued to remove the two trailers blocking the road.
The Benue State Police Command has recovered a newborn baby allegedly stolen from a hospital in Gboko and arrested some suspects in connection with the incident. Police spokesperson, Peter Aondongu, confirmed the arrests and said some of the suspects had been transferred to the state police headquarters in Makurdi, while others remained in custody at the Gboko division.
