Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has apologised to members of the military, police, customs and immigration services over controversial remarks he made at the Nigerian Bar Association conference.
Otse, in a video shared on Friday, admitted that his comments were unfair to security personnel who risk their lives to protect Nigerians.
He had described the military, police, immigration and customs personnel as “unknown gunmen” while speaking about insecurity at the NBA’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Otse said his intention was to draw attention to alleged corruption and sabotage involving some personnel within the security agencies, but acknowledged that his comments appeared to generalise the issue.
He specifically apologised to the Chief of Defence Staff, security personnel and families of fallen officers, particularly soldiers fighting insurgency and other threats across the country.
The activist maintained that while some personnel may be involved in misconduct, many others remain committed to protecting Nigerians.
He urged security personnel to remain focused and assured them of the support of Nigerians.
