Xenophobia: Tinubu Takes South Africa Issue to AU

President Bola Tinubu has formally raised concerns over recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks against Africans and other nationals in South Africa before the African Union (AU).

Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the AU Extraordinary Session in Luanda, Angola, called for urgent collective action to address the attacks.

He urged African leaders to place the issue on the agenda of the 40th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly scheduled for January 2027.

The President said the attacks undermine African solidarity, unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing the need to protect the safety and dignity of African nationals.

Tinubu also called for stronger continental efforts to combat xenophobia and Afrophobia through dialogue, preventive diplomacy and collective action.
