The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed an aerial surveillance aircraft to support ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, disclosed that the surveillance platform was deployed shortly after the abduction was reported, providing critical intelligence to security agencies involved in the search-and-rescue operation.

According to the governor, information gathered from the aerial missions has played a key role in tracking developments and coordinating efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.

Makinde appealed to residents of the affected communities and the general public to remain patient and continue supporting security agencies as operations intensify to rescue the abductees.

He assured citizens that all necessary resources were being mobilised to ensure a successful outcome and commended the Nigerian Air Force for its swift response and continued support.

The governor noted that the intervention came while the state’s newly acquired aerial security assets are still being assembled and prepared for deployment.

He expressed confidence that the new assets would significantly strengthen security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring areas once fully operational.

The Nigerian Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at securing the release of the abducted teachers and pupils, stressing that it would continue to work closely with other security agencies to address security challenges.

The victims were abducted on May 15 when armed men invaded three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping 39 students and seven teachers.

The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of schools and the growing threat of attacks on educational institutions across the country.
