Families of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have reportedly declined relief materials and financial assistance offered by government representatives, insisting that their primary concern is the safe return of their loved ones.
A community leader disclosed that while government officials visited the affected communities to sympathise with residents and provide support, many parents expressed that no amount of material assistance could replace the absence of their children and family members.
According to the community leader, the parents appreciated the concern shown by government representatives but maintained that their greatest need at the moment is the successful rescue and reunification of the abducted victims with their families.
He explained that emotions remain high within the affected communities, with many residents struggling to cope with the uncertainty surrounding the fate of the victims. Families, he said, continue to endure emotional distress as they await positive developments regarding rescue efforts.
Recounting the events surrounding the incident, the community leader said residents were initially unaware of the danger before the situation escalated. He noted that panic quickly spread through the community as reports of armed individuals emerged, forcing many residents to flee for safety.

The community leader emphasized that residents remain united in their appeal for the safe return of the victims. He said the affected families have consistently urged authorities to focus all available resources on rescue efforts rather than humanitarian relief alone.
He further noted that while community members acknowledge the support and concern demonstrated by government officials and other stakeholders, their overriding priority remains the freedom and safe return of those still in captivity.
