Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded another significant breakthrough in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign with the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders in Borno State.
The military disclosed that the two commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4 before being transferred to Maiduguri, where they arrived the following day and are currently in military custody.
According to the military, the surrendered suspects held the rank of “Munzirs” within the terrorist leadership structure, indicating that they occupied influential positions within the group.
The suspects are currently undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing and intelligence analysis as security operatives seek to gather critical information that could support ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North-East.
Preliminary findings from the interrogation indicate that the two commanders possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command structure, logistics network and methods of sustaining its operations.
Military authorities said intelligence obtained from the ongoing debriefing has already provided valuable insights into the terrorist group’s operational strategies, supply channels and support networks.
The information, according to the military, is expected to strengthen intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling the remaining terrorist enclaves operating across the North-East.
The surrender of the two commanders has been described as another major setback for the terrorist group and a reflection of the sustained pressure mounted by troops of Operation HADIN KAI through coordinated land and air operations.
The military noted that the continued offensive has significantly restricted the movement of insurgents, weakened their combat capabilities and disrupted their command and control structures.
It added that the sustained operations have increasingly made it difficult for terrorist leaders and fighters to continue their activities, forcing many of them to surrender to security forces.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining operational momentum until all terrorist elements are either neutralised or persuaded to lay down their arms.
It also assured Nigerians that troops will continue to intensify offensive operations, exploit actionable intelligence and work closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East region.
