The Oyo State Police Command has clarified that the students, pupils and teachers abducted during last Friday’s terrorist attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state have not yet been rescued.

The Command made the clarification through its spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that the victims had regained freedom.

According to the police, intensive rescue operations are still ongoing, with security agencies working to secure the safe release of the abducted victims and apprehend those behind the attack.

The Command urged residents of the state and members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic and confusion.

It warned that fake news and misinformation could heighten tension and divert security personnel from ongoing rescue operations.

The police assured residents that verified updates would be communicated through official channels as developments unfold.

The Command also advised individuals seeking authentic information on the situation to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the Command’s control room for clarification.

Also reacting to the development, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, Abayomi Fagbenro, confirmed that the abducted teachers and students had not been released as of Thursday morning.

The attack, which occurred in communities within Oriire Local Government Area, involved coordinated assaults on three schools, leading to the abduction of several teachers, pupils and students.

The incident has continued to generate concern across Oyo State, with residents and stakeholders calling for intensified security efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and prevent further attacks on schools and communities.
