The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a move backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has announced a new Interim National Working Committee (NWC) with Kabiru Turaki (SAN) appointed as the Chairman.
The decision was reached on Monday during the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja. At the meeting, a motion to constitute the caretaker leadership structure was introduced by the Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and was subsequently supported by former ex-officio member Clement Fagboyede. The motion was adopted after deliberations, leading to the formal approval of the interim leadership arrangement.
The newly constituted 13-member committee is expected to oversee the party’s national affairs temporarily and help stabilise its internal structure ahead of future congresses and broader organisational reforms.
Alongside Kabiru Turaki as Chairman, other key appointments include Taofeek Arapaja, who will serve as National Secretary. The committee also features several other notable members such as Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.
Party stakeholders present at the meeting described the move as a strategic step aimed at strengthening internal unity, improving coordination, and repositioning the PDP for upcoming political engagements. The interim team has been tasked with managing day-to-day party activities while working toward resolving outstanding internal issues and preparing the ground for a more permanent leadership structure.
