The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (ODCCPA) has warned manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers against producing or selling fake, counterfeit, adulterated, expired and substandard products.
The agency’s Executive Chairman, Oluyemi Fasipe, gave the warning on Thursday, saying businesses involved in such practices would face legal consequences under the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Law, 2026.
Fasipe said the agency would also tackle deceptive pricing, manipulation of measurements and other practices that exploit consumers or undermine their rights.
He explained that enforcement measures would include investigations, regulatory sanctions, sealing of premises where authorised by law, and prosecution through the appropriate legal process.
The chairman stressed that no individual or business would receive preferential treatment based on wealth, social status or political connections, adding that all businesses operating in the state must comply with the law.
He, however, clarified that the agency’s objective was not to discourage legitimate businesses or prevent entrepreneurs from making profits, but to ensure responsible commercial practices and protect consumers from harm and deception.
Fasipe urged businesses to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the new law and ensure compliance. He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report unfair business practices to the relevant authorities.
