The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has assured residents of adequate security before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Bakori gave the assurance at the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Kano State Chapter, where he said the command would deploy a robust security framework to ensure peaceful elections.
He disclosed that the police had commenced engagements with stakeholders, political actors, youth groups and media practitioners, alongside training and sensitisation programmes to prevent electoral violence.
The commissioner said the command would also strengthen intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies to tackle hate speech, political thuggery, fake news and other activities capable of disrupting public peace.
Bakori stressed the importance of responsible information management during elections, warning that misinformation and poorly managed reports could trigger violence and undermine public confidence.
He urged information officers and media practitioners to prioritise accuracy, professionalism and national interest, particularly during the collation and announcement of election results.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Amb. Zango Abdu, assured residents of the commission’s preparedness to conduct free, fair, credible and transparent elections in 2027 through improved technology and stakeholder engagement.
