The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has strengthened security across the state ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled visit on Friday, November 5, 2026.

The President is expected to commission projects and hold a town hall meeting with political stakeholders during the visit.

Speaking at a press conference in Uyo on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had put measures in place to ensure a peaceful visit.

Azare announced a total restriction on drone operations and flights within Uyo metropolis, as well as the use of fireworks throughout the President’s visit. He said the measures were intended to prevent unnecessary panic and security distractions.

The police commissioner also disclosed that some major routes would be temporarily restricted to ensure smooth movement for the President’s convoy.

The affected routes include Airport Road, Shelter Afrique Junction, Oron Road, Nung Oku Junction, Mbierebe Junction and Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

He urged residents to use alternative routes and cooperate with security agencies, while acknowledging that the temporary restrictions might cause inconvenience.

Azare added that although the command did not anticipate any security problems, it was prepared to respond to any eventuality during the visit.
