At least five residents have been killed and several others abducted after suspected bandits attacked Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack occurred despite a security alert issued by the Sokoto State Police Command over intelligence of a planned attack in the area.
The attackers reportedly spent several hours in the community, leaving residents with limited places to seek safety.
Five people were killed and four others injured, while several cattle were reportedly rustled during the attack.
Reports also indicated that one person was killed in Dukura and another in Jabga, both within Girkau Ward. A vigilante was among those abducted, with his locally made firearm taken by the attackers.
The incident comes amid renewed bandit activities in Kebbe, following reports that suspected bandits had demanded a ₦40 million levy from residents and threatened to attack the community if the demand was not met.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in the area.
