Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt, alongside members of the state House of Assembly and local government chairmen.
The meeting is seen as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts between the two political camps following a prolonged rift that divided the state’s political leadership. The delegation included the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, chairmen of the state’s 23 local government areas and the APC candidate for the 2027 elections, Kingsley Chinda.
Although details of the meeting were not immediately disclosed, sources said discussions focused on sustaining reconciliation and exploring ways to accommodate Fubara’s supporters in the state’s political arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The latest engagement follows an earlier meeting between Wike, members of the Rainbow Coalition and Fubara about two weeks ago.
The political crisis between Fubara and lawmakers loyal to Wike had lasted more than two years, with the dispute prompting impeachment moves against the governor before President Bola Tinubu intervened. In March 2025, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, leading to the suspension of the governor, his deputy and members of the House of Assembly. The elected officials later returned to office.
