Real Madrid Open Disciplinary Proceedings Against Asencio

Real Madrid have opened disciplinary proceedings against defender Raul Asencio following his conviction for drink-driving, head coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed.

The 23-year-old was convicted after being found driving more than three times above the legal alcohol limit during an incident in August. He was fined €14,400 and had his driving licence suspended for eight months.

Asencio is also facing a separate court case in Gran Canaria over the alleged non-consensual sharing of a sexual video dating back to 2023. Three former Real Madrid reserve players are also facing trial in connection with the case.

Mourinho said Asencio remained a committed professional but stressed that players represent the club both on and off the pitch.

“I’m not happy. Everyone makes mistakes but when they pile up, it’s not the same,” Mourinho said.

Asencio has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since July and has yet to feature in a matchday squad under Mourinho. He was a regular member of Real Madrid’s first-team squad during the previous two seasons.
