The West African Examinations Council has withheld the results of 167,486 candidates who sat for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination over alleged examination malpractice.
WAEC said the results were withheld mainly because of the use of mobile phones in examination halls and organised cheating in some schools.
The Head of WAEC Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, disclosed this while announcing the release of the 2026 WASSCE results in Lagos on Wednesday.
He also said some supervisors and invigilators allegedly caught assisting candidates in malpractice had been arrested and would face disciplinary action.
The withheld results represent 8.59 per cent of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination, lower than the 9.7 per cent recorded in 2025.
WAEC said the affected results would be investigated before a final decision is taken.
