The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a ban on the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of measures to protect the newly constructed road infrastructure.

The restriction, which takes effect this week, was announced by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare.

According to Dare, the decision was taken to prevent misuse of the highway and preserve its condition for long-term use.

He explained that the ministry is committed to safeguarding the road and ensuring its sustainability through strict enforcement of traffic regulations.

In addition to the ban, the ministry has prohibited the indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State.

The ministry also warned against the indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable and detrimental to road maintenance.

Dare stated that offenders would face strict enforcement measures, adding that road signs indicating the new restrictions have already been installed along the highway.

He further disclosed that task force officials would be stationed at strategic points to monitor compliance and enforce the regulations.

Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure, Dare urged motorists and other road users to adhere to the directives in the interest of public safety.

He added that protecting the highway would help extend its lifespan and preserve its value for the benefit of all Nigerians.
