The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that High Chief Tajudeen Abioye, the Elesinele of Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, was invited for questioning over the recent abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the area.
In a statement issued on June 24, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command described the report as false, unfounded, and misleading.
The police clarified that the traditional ruler was never invited in connection with the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping incident.
According to the statement, the publication forms part of a deliberate misinformation campaign allegedly aimed at creating division, generating unnecessary tension, and undermining security efforts to rescue the abducted victims and bring those responsible to justice.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the report and refrain from circulating unverified information that could compromise ongoing security operations.
It reiterated its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders and other security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims and ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
The police also appealed to residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible and timely information through official channels.
