Nigerian rapper and singer, Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as YCee, has revealed that he was diagnosed with a mental health condition in 2020, a development that led to his prolonged absence from the music scene.

Speaking during a recent podcast interview, the ‘Omo Alhaji’ hitmaker recounted how the diagnosis came during the COVID-19 lockdown while he was in London.

According to YCee, he spent about six months in the United Kingdom and was hospitalised intermittently for three months as doctors worked to manage his condition.

He explained that he later returned to Nigeria to continue treatment due to visa limitations, describing his recovery process as a difficult and lengthy journey.

YCee said he underwent several rounds of hospitalisation, remained on medication for years, and continues to attend therapy sessions as part of his treatment.

Reflecting on the experience, the rapper noted that the recovery process was marked by periods of progress and setbacks, with some moments proving particularly challenging.

Despite the struggles, YCee disclosed that his condition has significantly improved and that he is now in a stable state after years of treatment and professional support.

The artist’s revelation sheds light on the importance of mental health awareness and the challenges many individuals face while navigating treatment and recovery.
