President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a formal step toward the 2027 presidential election after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.

The forms, which cost a combined fee of ₦100 million, were purchased on his behalf by a coalition of supporters and political groups from across the country.

Member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, represented the president at the event. Faleke received the forms from the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu.

Speaking to journalists, Faleke emphasized that the funds used to purchase the forms were collectively contributed by over 1,000 supporters, dismissing claims that a single individual financed the process. He described the effort as a broad-based show of support for the president’s re-election bid.

Faleke also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election, stating that the president would both contest and emerge victorious.

In addition, Faleke collected nomination forms for other aspirants, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who is positioned as the APC’s consensus candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election. He also secured forms for Senator Idiat Adebule and for himself as he seeks re-election to the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the APC has denied allegations that it is restricting access to nomination forms. The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, stated that all eligible members are free to obtain forms and contest for various positions.

Elsewhere, Senator Shehu Buba has declared his intention to run for governor of Bauchi State, confirming that he has obtained the party’s nomination form. He expressed optimism about his chances in the upcoming election cycle.

In Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Ododo convened a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss consensus arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections. However, discussions ended without a clear resolution, as differing views persisted among participants.
