A 20-year-old student of the University of Lagos has told a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja how a lecturer, Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, allegedly assaulted her in his office.

The student gave her testimony before Justice Oyindamola Ogala while appearing as the first prosecution witness in the ongoing trial.

The Lagos State Government is prosecuting the lecturer on a two-count charge bordering on rape and sexual assault.

While being led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, A.O. Azeez, the witness recounted that the incident allegedly occurred on August 22, 2025, at about noon on the university’s Akoka campus.

She told the court that a day earlier, during an examination, the lecturer approached her and later asked her to visit his office after the exam. According to her, she made attempts to meet him afterward but was unable to find him.

The witness said that on August 22, after completing another examination, she encountered the lecturer near her faculty, where he asked her to wait and subsequently led her to his office.

Describing the office as secluded, she said it was located underground, without windows or a secretary present. She added that two female students briefly entered during their discussion but were dismissed by the lecturer.

She alleged that shortly after asking her to shut the door, the lecturer pushed her onto a couch and sexually assaulted her.

The witness further told the court that after the incident, the lecturer allegedly made promises concerning her academic progress, including supervising her final-year project, and collected her contact details.

She said she left the office distressed and immediately reported the incident to a friend, after which steps were taken to escalate the matter within the university.

According to her, the case was first reported to a lecturer in her department, who contacted her relative, also a lecturer, before they approached the Head of Department. She alleged that the lecturer denied the accusation when confronted.

The witness said the matter was later reported to the university’s Servicom office, after which she was taken to a medical centre for examination and treatment.

She added that she subsequently reported the case to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, which referred her to the police. The case was later handled by the Gender Unit of the police command for investigation.

She also told the court that there were attempts by the defendant’s associates to initiate a settlement after the incident.

Following her testimony, the court adjourned the case until April 27, 2026, for cross-examination.
