President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Romuald Wadagni on his election as President of Benin Republic, describing his victory as a clear expression of the confidence the Beninese people have in his leadership and public service record.
Wadagni, currently serving as the country’s Minister of Finance, secured a decisive win in the presidential election held on April 12, 2026.
In a personally signed message, Tinubu praised the government and citizens of Benin Republic for conducting a peaceful and orderly election. He noted that the smooth transition reflects the nation’s commitment to democratic values and stability.
The Nigerian leader also emphasized the long-standing relationship between both countries, highlighting shared cultural, economic, and historical ties. He expressed readiness to work closely with the incoming administration to deepen bilateral cooperation, strengthen regional security, and promote economic growth within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union.
Tinubu further assured Wadagni of Nigeria’s full support as he prepares to assume office, wishing him wisdom, strength, and success in leading the country.
