Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured families of military and police personnel killed in a recent attack in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State that the Federal Government will continue to support them.

Shettima gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the state on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the welfare of fallen security personnel and their families.

“We are going to support you. We appreciate you, we respect you, and we will take whatever measures necessary to ensure you are able to carry out your duties effectively,” the Vice President said.

He led a federal delegation to commiserate with the state over the killing of 11 security officers in Shanga, as well as the destruction of affected communities. He also conveyed condolences over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman Zuru, who passed away in Cairo on April 7.

Shettima stated that the President had directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief materials to families of the slain officers and displaced persons affected by the attacks.

According to him, the Director-General of NEMA accompanied the delegation to ensure that adequate support mechanisms are put in place for victims.

Reiterating the government’s stance, Shettima emphasized that the sacrifices of security personnel would not be in vain and that their families would continue to receive necessary care and assistance.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, said security agencies in the state were working closely with the government to address emerging threats, noting improvements in their operational strategies.

The governor also appreciated the Federal Government for its show of solidarity, revealing that the state had donated N60 million to support families of the slain officers, while displaced communities had been resettled.

Similarly, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, commended the Federal Government’s intervention and prayed for lasting peace in the state and across the country.
