The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed April 22, 2026, for the hearing of two appeals filed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki.

The date was set by a five-member panel of the court headed by Justice Mohammed Garba during proceedings on Tuesday.

The apex court granted an accelerated hearing of the appeals, including a request to abridge the time for filing processes. It directed the respondents to file their briefs within five days, while the appellants were given two days to submit any reply.

The appeals challenge the March 9 judgments of the Court of Appeal Nigeria, which upheld earlier rulings of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The lower court had ordered the PDP not to proceed with its planned national convention until it complies with relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, as well as the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).

The Federal High Court judgments were delivered by Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu in suits filed by aggrieved party members, including former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.

The court session was attended by several political figures, including Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Kabiru Turaki; former Niger State governor, Aliyu Babangida; and other party stakeholders.
