The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has admitted that due diligence was not adequately carried out in the process that led to the recognition of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Walson-Jack made the admission while appearing before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged operations of the council.
She accepted responsibility for the lapse, explaining that her office relied on documents that appeared authentic without conducting sufficient verification.
According to her, the documents bore the State House logo and what appeared to be a familiar signature, leaving her office with no immediate reason to question their authenticity.
However, she said subsequent comparisons with genuine State House correspondence, supported by police forensic findings, revealed that the signatures were different.
“Due diligence was not thoroughly carried out to recognise the PFIPC. I assure you that my office will review our internal verification procedures to make them more robust and fraud-proof,” Walson-Jack told the committee.
The House committee is investigating the circumstances surrounding the establishment and operations of the purported council, following allegations that it operated without lawful authorization.
