The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has sought royal blessings from the Ooni of Ife ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

During a visit to the monarch’s palace, Oyebamiji said his ambition is driven by service, accountability, and a commitment to the development of Osun State. He pledged not to betray the trust of the people and promised to work diligently for the progress of both Ile-Ife and the state at large.

He also commended the Ooni for promoting Yoruba unity and preserving cultural heritage, describing Ile-Ife as a symbol of historical and spiritual significance.

Oyebamiji revealed that his visit followed advice from Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek traditional blessings before commencing his campaign.

In his response, the Ooni of Ife praised the candidate for showing respect for traditional institutions, noting that such humility is an important leadership quality. He, however, urged political actors to prioritise unity and avoid actions that could create division.

The monarch emphasised that leaders must justify the prayers and blessings they receive through good governance and selfless service.

Oyebamiji was accompanied by his running mate, Kayode Adereti, Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, and other party leaders, while traditional rulers present at the palace also offered prayers for a peaceful and successful election season.
