The Federal Government has reported an increase in electricity generation, rising from 3,951 megawatts to 4,300 megawatts between March 28 and April 10.

According to officials, the improvement follows a boost in gas supply to thermal power plants, which grew from about 605 million standard cubic feet per day to over 704 mmscfd within the same period. Mechanical capacity also remained stable, reaching over 7,700MW, while operational output climbed to more than 4,600MW—indicating better efficiency in converting available gas into power.

Despite occasional fluctuations, authorities say the overall trend reflects gradual recovery in the sector, driven by stronger gas supply and improved coordination among key players.

To sustain progress, a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee has been set up to oversee gas delivery, strengthen collaboration between suppliers and generation companies, and address bottlenecks affecting supply.

Officials say the government remains committed to improving electricity output through ongoing reforms and targeted interventions, acknowledging that while progress has been made, more work is needed to achieve consistent and reliable power supply.

In a related development, the leadership of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency has been tasked with improving its internally generated revenue and reducing reliance on government funding for operations. Plans are also underway to expand meter testing centres nationwide and address manpower shortages, particularly by training more meter installers to help close the country’s metering gap.

Efforts are expected to include a comprehensive review of the agency’s operations to identify and resolve key challenges, alongside greater collaboration with relevant institutions to enhance service delivery.
