The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast a combination of dust haze, sunshine, and isolated thunderstorms across different parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.

According to the latest weather outlook, atmospheric conditions over the northern, central, and southern regions are expected to vary throughout the three-day period, with residents in some areas likely to experience reduced visibility due to dust haze, while others will see sunny skies and occasional rainfall.

For Monday, weather conditions in the northern region are expected to be largely dry, with moderate dust haze anticipated over parts of Kebbi and Kano States. Horizontal visibility in the affected areas is projected to range between two and five kilometres, a situation that may impact road users and other outdoor activities.

Other parts of the North are expected to remain under generally sunny and hazy skies, a pattern that has become common during this period of the dry season in several states across the region.

In the North-Central region, moderate dust haze is also expected to affect parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, while the rest of the states in the zone are forecast to experience sunny and hazy weather conditions throughout the day.

For residents in these areas, the weather is expected to remain largely dry, with little or no significant rainfall activity. The hazy atmosphere may also lead to warmer daytime conditions and a slight drop in air quality in some locations.

In the southern part of the country, the weather outlook indicates a slightly different pattern. Most states are expected to experience sunny skies with occasional cloud patches, creating generally fair conditions for much of the day.

However, some southern states are likely to witness afternoon and evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall. The areas expected to be affected on Monday include Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

The combination of sunshine and later cloud build-up could result in humid conditions during the day, especially in coastal and riverine communities.

By Tuesday, the forecast suggests that the northern region will continue to experience mostly dry and hazy conditions. A slight dust haze is expected over parts of Kano and Kebbi States, while other states across the North are likely to remain under sunny and hazy skies.

The persistence of these conditions means residents may continue to experience reduced visibility in some areas, especially during the early morning and evening periods when haze can appear more pronounced.

Across the central region, sunny and hazy conditions are expected to dominate much of the day. However, there is a possibility of isolated thunderstorm activity over parts of Plateau State, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.

This means that while much of the North-Central zone may remain dry and warm, certain elevated areas could experience brief but noticeable weather disturbances later in the day.

In the South, Tuesday’s forecast points to a continuation of sunny weather with patches of cloud, but with an increased chance of thunderstorms in several states as the day progresses.

States expected to witness afternoon and evening thunderstorms include Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

These storms, although likely to be scattered, may bring short periods of rainfall, gusty winds, and temporary disruptions in outdoor and transport activities in some affected areas.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, weather conditions in both the northern and central parts of the country are expected to remain largely unchanged, with sunny and hazy skies forecast across most states in those regions.

This suggests a continuation of the dry atmospheric pattern, particularly in the northern belt, where dust particles suspended in the air may continue to influence visibility and overall air conditions.

In the southern region, however, residents are expected to continue experiencing a mix of sunshine and unstable weather. The forecast indicates sunny skies with occasional cloud patches, alongside the possibility of afternoon and evening thunderstorms with light rainfall in a number of states.

The states expected to be affected on Wednesday include Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

This pattern suggests that while mornings in the South may begin relatively bright and calm, weather conditions could become more active later in the day as cloud formation intensifies and rainfall develops in isolated areas.

The forecast highlights the contrast in weather conditions currently being experienced across the country, with the North and parts of the central region largely dominated by dry, hazy, and sunny weather, while the South continues to see a combination of sunshine, cloud cover, and convective rainfall activity.

Residents, especially those in haze-prone areas, are advised to remain cautious, particularly road users, people with respiratory conditions, and those engaging in long-distance travel, as reduced visibility and dust concentration may affect comfort and safety.

Likewise, people in areas expected to experience thunderstorms are encouraged to plan outdoor activities carefully and remain alert to sudden changes in weather, especially during the afternoon and evening periods.

As the week begins, the forecast points to generally stable but regionally varied weather conditions, with dust haze continuing to shape the outlook in parts of the country while scattered thunderstorms remain likely across sections of the South.
