Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The directive was conveyed in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and applies to all categories of public servants, including local government workers and staff of tertiary institutions.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the decision is aimed at enabling public servants to fulfil their civic responsibility ahead of the forthcoming governorship election and future elections in the state.
The government, however, directed workers on essential duties, including medical and security personnel, to make adequate arrangements to ensure that public services are not disrupted during the work-free day.
Governor Adeleke also urged all eligible voters, including public servants and informal sector workers who have not collected their PVCs, to do so without delay.
He stressed that the Permanent Voter Card remains the key requirement for participating in the electoral process, describing it as the gateway to the ballot.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the election.
