The Lagos State Government has alerted motorists to expected traffic disruptions on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as repair works on the Kara Bridge begin on Tuesday, July 28.

According to the government, the Federal Ministry of Works will commence the replacement of the bridge’s expansion joint, with the project expected to last for two weeks.

To facilitate the repairs, the four-lane carriageway will be reduced to two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre section of the bridge, a development expected to slow traffic around the Kara axis.

Authorities said motorists are likely to experience congestion around the Fatgbems Turn as road users seek alternative routes or make U-turns to avoid delays.

Traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is, however, expected to experience minimal disruption.

The government advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes where possible, obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the construction period.

It said the rehabilitation work is aimed at improving the safety and durability of the Kara Bridge and appealed to road users for patience during the two-week exercise.
