Nigerians to see better electricity supply within two weeks – Adelabu’s aide

The Chief Technical Adviser to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Olowoniyi, has said Nigerians should begin to see gradual improvement in electricity supply as maintenance work on a major gas pipeline nears completion, with full restoration expected within two weeks.

Olowoniyi stated that the recent power outages were largely caused by disruptions to a key gas pipeline, noting that a significant portion of Nigeria’s electricity generation depends on gas supply.

According to him, the repair process is close to completion, and as gas pressure gradually returns, power plants are expected to resume stronger levels of generation.

He explained that improvements in electricity supply would not happen all at once but would come progressively over the coming days and weeks.

Olowoniyi also defended the recent apology issued by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, describing it as a demonstration of leadership and responsibility rather than an admission of personal blame.

He said the minister’s action reflected a commitment to addressing the challenges in the power sector and ensuring that practical solutions are implemented as quickly as possible.

The Federal Government has maintained that the current disruption is temporary and has reiterated its goal of increasing electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts before the end of 2026.

Nigeria’s electricity sector continues to face long-standing challenges, including gas supply shortages, ageing infrastructure, transmission bottlenecks and liquidity issues across the value chain.
