Nigerians have reacted with widespread anger following the circulation of disturbing videos online showing women being attacked and struggling to escape from men during an alleged event in Ozoro, Delta State.
The footage, which has gone viral across social media platforms, depicts multiple women crying out for help while being restrained by groups of men. In some clips, individuals are heard making threatening remarks, suggesting that women in public spaces were being deliberately targeted.
The incident, reportedly described by some as a “rape festival,” has sparked condemnation from rights groups, commentators, and members of the public, many of whom have called for swift intervention by security agencies.
Reacting to the development, activist Deji Adeyanju urged authorities to take immediate action, calling for the arrest and prosecution of all those involved.
The Nigeria Police Force, through the Delta State Command, has since launched an investigation into the matter. Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, described the incident as “alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing,” stressing that no cultural practice or tradition can override the fundamental rights of citizens.
According to the police, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aina Adesola, has ordered a full-scale probe and assured residents that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice.
Authorities have also appealed to members of the public with credible information to come forward to aid ongoing investigations.
The incident has intensified concerns over public safety and the protection of women, with many Nigerians demanding urgent and decisive action to prevent further occurrences.
