Two lock-up shops have been destroyed by fire at the Bola Ige International Market, New Gbagi, Ibadan.

The fire broke out at about 12:25 p.m. on Monday in the market’s Milo Zone, prompting a quick response from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency.

Firefighters found two of nine adjoining shops engulfed in flames but successfully stopped the fire from spreading to the remaining shops and nearby properties.

No casualty was recorded.

The agency said an investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the fire.

The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Dr Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged traders to remain vigilant and equip their shops with fire extinguishers.

He also advised members of the public to report fire incidents promptly and provide accurate locations to enable firefighters to respond quickly.
