President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday departed Abuja for a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing key economic and security partnerships.

The President left the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 10 a.m., accompanied by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, following an invitation from King Charles III, who will host the Nigerian delegation at Windsor Castle.

He was seen off at the airport by top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding covering sectors such as trade and investment, energy transition, solid minerals development, and security cooperation.

During the visit, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host the President and the First Lady to a special exhibition from the Royal Collection featuring items connected to Nigeria. The programme will also include private discussions between both leaders, as well as engagements with organisations involved in interfaith dialogue.

A State Banquet will be held in honour of President Tinubu and his delegation, while further diplomatic engagements are scheduled outside the royal itinerary.

The President is also expected to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where both countries will explore deeper cooperation in trade, investment, defence, and cultural exchange.

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving the United Kingdom Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. The deal is aimed at supporting the rehabilitation of major maritime infrastructure, including the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.

President Tinubu will also attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition as guest of honour and participate in a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders, as well as members of the Nigerian diaspora in the UK.

He is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-day visit.
