The unions and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, have settled their dispute. The strike has ended, and the affected employees in Abuja can return to work immediately.
The agreement was announced in a circular distributed Tuesday to all local branches of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) within the FCT.
The circular, jointly signed by TUC General Secretary Nuhu Toro and Acting NLC General Secretary Benson Upah, states that the agreement was reached following a mediation meeting between union representatives and the FCT Minister.
This meeting, convened by the Chairman of the FCT Senate Committee, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, took place after lengthy deliberations from approximately 11:45 p.m. Sunday until Monday morning.
According to the unions, all points raised by members of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) were thoroughly examined at the meeting. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) assured the union representatives of mutual respect and reaffirmed the continuation of dialogue on labor issues in the territory.
Both sides also agreed that no worker would be penalized for participating in the strike and that all pending cases before the National Labor Court would be immediately dismissed.
Following this agreement, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) ordered the immediate return to work for all affected employees under the administration of the FCT. Union representatives emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to this directive in the interest of social peace and harmony, describing the outcome as a testament to the goodwill of all parties involved.
The social movement, which began on January 19, was triggered by unresolved complaints regarding worker protections and allegations of abuse of power.
