Nigeria and Turkiye signed nine agreements to strengthen bilateral relations during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Ankara.
The agreements were signed by President Tinubu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a bilateral meeting attended by high-ranking government officials from both countries.
The agreements cover key areas of cooperation, including diaspora policy, defense, trade, education, media, and social development. A joint declaration was also signed establishing the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), which aims to deepen economic cooperation between the two nations.
Other agreements address halal-compliant infrastructure, higher education cooperation, media and communications cooperation, and institutional partnerships between the foreign and diplomatic academies of both countries. One agreement also links the Turkish Ministry of Social Affairs with the Nigerian Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Development.
At a joint press conference, President Erdoğan stated that discussions on implementing the agreements have already begun. He added that Turkiye remains committed to reaching a trade volume of $5 billion with Nigeria.
These agreements are intended to strengthen cooperation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and solidify diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
