The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has urged Nigerians to place a high priority on their health, safety, and overall wellbeing during the festive season by making responsible and drug-free choices.

In a Christmas goodwill message, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), extended warm seasonal greetings to Nigerians across the country, while also commending officers and men of the NDLEA for their unwavering dedication to duty. He acknowledged their sacrifices and commitment to protecting communities from the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, noting that their efforts continue to play a crucial role in safeguarding lives and strengthening national security.

Marwa stressed that the Christmas season, often marked by celebrations and social gatherings, should be a time for reflection, unity, and healthy living rather than indulgence in harmful substances. He appealed to the general public to consciously avoid drugs and other dangerous practices that could threaten their health or the safety of others during the holidays.

According to him, responsible behaviour at the individual and community levels remains essential in addressing the challenges posed by drug abuse in the country. He emphasised that collective vigilance, informed choices, and personal responsibility are key to reducing drug-related harm, especially during festive periods when substance abuse tends to increase.

The NDLEA boss also encouraged families, community leaders, and stakeholders to support efforts aimed at promoting drug-free lifestyles, particularly among young people, who are often more vulnerable to the dangers of drug use. He noted that creating awareness and fostering positive values can help build safer communities and a healthier society.

Marwa concluded by calling on Nigerians to work together in promoting peace, safety, and wellbeing across the nation, while wishing everyone a peaceful, joyful, and drug-free Christmas celebration.
