Security operatives on Tuesday took over the Adolak Event Centre in Osogbo as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) went ahead with its 2026 Osun State governorship primary, despite opposition from the state chapter.
This development follows the declaration by the Osun State PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, that the December 2, 2025 primary could not hold due to unresolved issues within the party’s national leadership. Bisi also suggested that Governor Ademola Adeleke might no longer be interested in contesting for the party’s ticket amid the ongoing crisis.
Despite these concerns, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilous Shan, insisted the primary would proceed as planned.
At the venue on Tuesday, there was a noticeable deployment of security personnel, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services. The heavy presence was aimed at preventing disruptions and maintaining order.
Members of the PDP primary election committee, led by Mr. Humphery Abba, were on ground to supervise the exercise. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also in attendance.
Screening and accreditation of delegates from the 30 local government areas of the state had been completed as of the time of this report. A committee member disclosed that 957 of the 990 accredited delegates were cleared for participation.
The official further noted that two aspirants initially signaled interest in the party’s ticket—Senator Ademola Adeleke and Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola. However, Adeleke is no longer part of the process following his resignation from the party.
