The Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has praised Governor Seyi Makinde for presenting the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a major turning point for Oyo’s development, security and long-term economic outlook. Governor Makinde, on Monday, unveiled a budget of ₦891.9 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, tagged the Budget of Economic Expansion, which the forum believes builds on the stabilisation achieved in the 2025 budget and sets a stronger foundation for sustained growth across the state.
In their statement, signed by the chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and released through the forum’s Public Relations Officer, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the chairmen highlighted the administration’s commitment to rapid development, pointing to the significant emphasis on capital expenditure, which accounts for more than half of the entire budget. They noted that key sectors such as infrastructure, education and health are positioned to receive major boosts, reflecting the governor’s intent to strengthen essential services and improve quality of life statewide.
The forum also commended the Makinde administration for prioritising transparency, accountability and responsible financial management. According to them, the new budget provides a clear guide for economic recovery and aligns with the government’s vision for modern, people-focused development. They applauded Makinde’s continued push for innovation and economic expansion, particularly through strategic investments that support the emergence of a modernised economy.
Agriculture was another area the chairmen highlighted, praising the administration’s success in turning agribusiness into a driver of rural prosperity. They said the allocation to the sector would reinforce ongoing efforts to transform agriculture into a sustainable growth engine, helping to move the state from “poverty to prosperity.”
The forum encouraged residents to support the government in bringing the budget’s goals to reality and urged the State House of Assembly to give the Appropriation Bill speedy consideration in the interest of ongoing development and stability across Oyo State.
