The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that its ongoing renegotiation meeting with the Federal Government, which began on Monday, will conclude today (Tuesday).

In a statement released on Tuesday, the union said its National Executive Council (NEC) will meet on Wednesday to review the outcome of the discussions and determine its next steps regarding a possible nationwide strike.

“The renegotiation meeting commenced on Monday and is scheduled to conclude today. Immediately after this phase, the National Executive Council will convene tomorrow (Wednesday) to review the outcome and determine our next line of action,” ASUU stated.

The union assured its members and the public that an official update will be issued after the NEC meeting.

ASUU recently threatened an indefinite shutdown of all public universities over unresolved demands, including the rejection of the 35 per cent salary increase proposed by the Federal Government and concerns about unfulfilled components of earlier agreements.

The union had suspended its warning strike in October to allow room for dialogue. However, tensions have continued to rise as negotiations drag on without a concrete agreement.
