President Bola Tinubu has approved a two-year extension of tenure for the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.

The extension, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, will keep Adebomehin in office until January 2028. This move follows the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency, placing national surveying and geospatial intelligence functions directly under the executive arm of government.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision is intended to consolidate ongoing reforms in geospatial data systems and national land administration.

President Tinubu expects the Surveyor-General to use the extended period to deepen reforms in areas such as land management, infrastructure coordination along highways, erosion control, and other key aspects of national development.

Adebomehin was initially appointed to the role by former President Muhammadu Buhari and assumed office on January 5, 2022.
