Leaders from the northern region of Nigeria, under the Arewa Think Tank, on Monday visited the leadership of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, to declare their collaboration in backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

The northern delegation, led by Muhammad Yakubu, convener of the Arewa Think Tank, praised President Tinubu’s midterm achievements, describing his administration’s reforms as bold and impactful. The visit took place at the residence of Afenifere’s National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State.

Yakubu explained that the group, composed of professionals from all 19 northern states and chaired by former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Muktair Yero, was renewing its commitment to the South-West and the President’s leadership.

“We are here to reaffirm our support for President Tinubu and to thank the South-West for giving Nigeria a leader with vision and courage,” Yakubu said. “His mid-term scorecard is impressive, and we are confident he will lead the country to greater heights. The progress we’ve seen is a testament to the power of inter-regional collaboration.”

Responding on behalf of Pa Fasoranti, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and monarch of Ilu Abo community, Oba Olu Falae, welcomed the northern leaders’ gesture, expressing hope that the Tinubu administration’s reforms would benefit all Nigerians.

Falae praised President Tinubu’s economic measures, highlighting the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of multiple exchange rates as courageous but necessary actions to stabilise the economy and attract investment.

“No previous government had the courage to undertake these tough reforms,” Falae said. “Though painful at first, these policies are already showing signs of easing inflation and creating economic stability. We expect continued improvements in the coming months.”

Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere’s Organising Secretary, described the northern leaders’ support as a positive development and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

The meeting highlights growing political synergy between northern leaders and the South-West, signaling a united front as the nation approaches the next general elections.
