The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has formally presented the ceremonial beaded crown to High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the former Governor of Oyo State and newly appointed Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The prestigious ceremony which took place at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan, marked a significant milestone in the traditional hierarchy of Ibadanland.

While presenting the staff of office to the newly crowned Oba, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Bayo Lawal said Ibadan people know how to resolve their differences without the intervention of a third party.

The acting Governor said the government wants a well-established monarchy which will serve as a model for the entire Yoruba race and that informed the change.

In his response, Oba Ladoja mentioned that those who anticipated a crisis in the ancient city due to the reform of the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration were mistaken.

The former Governor also noted that he agreed to take the crown after all his reservations and uncertainties were addressed.

Ladoja thanked the Oyo State Governor, Ibadan indigenes and residents of the city, praying that Ibadanland will continue to witness tremendous achievements.

The Otun Olubadan is the last Ibadan High Chief to be crowned, having initially refused to accept beaded crown and engaged in lawsuits against the Oyo State government over the development.

The former governor, who is currently in the line to become the next Olubadan however bowed to pressure in view of the amendment to the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957 which was signed by Governor Seyi Makinde and gazetted in 2023.
