The Oyo State Government has dismissed allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration plans to sell or transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm in Ibadan to a private developer.
The government described the allegation as false, insisting that there was no plan to sell, cede or transfer the facility to Baywood Estate, a private housing development located near the Agodi Government Secretariat.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, stated this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday, challenging the opposition party to provide documentary evidence to support its claims.
The APC had alleged that the proposed transfer was part of efforts to expand Baywood Estate following the destruction of a conservation forest in the area.
However, Olanrewaju described the allegation as baseless, accusing the opposition of relying on rumours and speculation to mislead the public.
He maintained that the Agodi Government Fish Farm remained a valuable public asset, adding that any decisions concerning its management or future development would be guided by public interest and the law.
Olanrewaju also said the Makinde administration remained committed to preserving and developing public assets while investing in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and other sectors of the state’s economy.
Established in the mid-1950s, the Agodi Government Fish Farm became a model demonstration centre in collaboration with the University of Ibadan. It has supported fish production by supplying table fish and fish seeds to other states.
