Southwest leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved to mobilise voters across the six states in the region to secure overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The resolution was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, convened by the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s Directorate of Mobilisation and Stakeholders Engagement for the Southwest, led by former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.
The meeting was attended by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, former Ondo State Governor Segun Mimiko, former Ekiti State Governor Niyi Adebayo and former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, among other party leaders.
The leaders agreed to strengthen mobilisation at the state, local government and ward levels, with the aim of securing more votes for Tinubu than he received in the Southwest during the 2023 presidential election.
Fashola urged party members to regard Tinubu’s re-election campaign as a collective responsibility, stressing that every vote would count. He also called for reconciliation among party members, particularly those aggrieved over the outcome of party primaries.
He said the campaign directorate would coordinate mobilisation structures across the region, resolve internal disagreements and refer issues requiring national intervention to the party’s leadership.
Former Ondo State Governor Segun Mimiko expressed confidence in Tinubu’s administration, saying there was a broad agreement among Southwest political leaders to support the President’s re-election.
Mimiko highlighted improvements in tertiary education, including greater academic stability and access to higher education, as achievements that should be communicated to voters at the grassroots.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, have reportedly agreed to put their political differences aside and work together towards Tinubu’s re-election.
Aiyedatiwa met with Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, at the Ondo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Monday night.
The meeting, which took place ahead of Tinubu’s scheduled campaign rally in Akure on November 11, was described as a step towards strengthening unity within the Ondo APC.
A party source said the leaders were committed to working together to secure more votes for Tinubu in the state, with a target of increasing the President’s support beyond the previous election.
The Ondo APC has also constituted a 228-member Presidential Campaign Council to coordinate campaign activities, strengthen grassroots engagement and mobilise support across the state’s 18 local government areas.
