The Sokoto State Government has ordered immediate measures to address low attendance among students and teachers in several schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, gave the directive during a ministry briefing after monitoring teams reported poor student turnout and the absence of some Quality Assurance officers during school visits.
Ala directed the Director of Quality Assurance, Muhammad Sani Usman, to address the attendance issues and ensure compliance with supervision requirements. He also directed teachers to regularly update and maintain school records.
The commissioner further ordered the Quality Assurance director to engage the Association of Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, on introducing a teachers’ signing book to monitor attendance and participation in lessons.
Ala charged education officials and school authorities to intensify supervision, improve record-keeping and ensure greater commitment to teaching and learning across the state.
