The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and observe preventive measures following the confirmation of an imported Ebola case in Kenya.
The agency said it had strengthened national surveillance and preparedness after Kenya confirmed the case, which was caused by the Bundibugyo virus and linked to an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The NCDC said that as of October 6, 2026, no case of Ebola had been confirmed in Nigeria, but it was reviewing the risk and working with relevant authorities and partners to strengthen preparedness.
It advised Nigerians to practise regular hand hygiene, avoid contact with the blood or body fluids of sick people, and stay away from sick or dead wild animals. The agency also urged people to avoid raw or poorly cooked bushmeat and seek medical attention promptly if they develop symptoms suggestive of Ebola or become ill after possible exposure.
The NCDC said vigilance and early reporting remained critical to ensuring that any potential case is detected and managed promptly.
