The National Emergency Management Agency has deployed search and rescue teams to flood-affected states as heavy rainfall continues to cause deaths, displacement and destruction of homes, roads, farms and other infrastructure across the country.

NEMA spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, said the agency was not lowering its guard as the rainy season continues. He said teams had been directed to affected communities to coordinate with local authorities, create awareness and respond to emergencies. Reinforcement is also being sent to Ebonyi and Rivers states, where flooding has become serious.

Flooding has been reported in several states, including Bauchi, Edo, Bayelsa, Imo, Rivers, Osun, Ekiti, Abia, Anambra, Benue and Delta. The incidents have affected thousands of residents, damaged property and disrupted transportation and economic activities. The Senate has also urged governments at all levels to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure prompt relief for victims.
